This summer, I had the pleasure of joining Dan on one of his Rhode Island bike tours along the backroads of rural, coastal (and beautiful!) RI. Dan is the founder of Little Compton Adventures, a tour company that offers biking tours in southeast Rhode Island and beyond.
Dan has lived in Rhode Island for over 35 years and not only knows the best cycling routes on quiet, scenic roads but also the best little hidden gems and interesting facts from Rhode Island’s 400+ year history.
I loved our ride and recommend booking a tour with Little Compton Adventures to anyone looking for a unique way to experience Rhode Island!
Why book a Rhode Island bike tour
Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the US, but its quiet back roads, coastal scenery, and relatively flat terrain make it one of the best states for exploring by bike. No grueling hills, no nerve-racking traffic, and definitely no boring miles.
If you’re visiting Rhode Island and just have a day or two to explore, a bike tour is a perfect way to see and experience the Ocean State.
Little Compton Adventures
Dan has lived in Little Compton for 20 years (Rhode Island for 35) and started Little Compton Adventures in 2021 after retiring from his job in the healthcare field. His initial collection of six bikes has grown into a larger fleet and he now has e-bikes for those looking to just relax and enjoy the scenery.

Depending on what you want to see/do, here are the tours to choose from:
Little Compton Beaches & Hideaway Tour
Explore the best scenic coastal roads and beaches in Little Compton including South Shore beach, Goosewing beach, Town Landing, Historic Taylors Lane, Sakonnet Point, and Lloyd’s beach.
This two-hour tour covers 12-15 miles and is a great way to enjoy this beautiful area. The roads are mostly rolling with a few short, mellow climbs.
If you prefer an e-bike, the e-bike tour covers the same beaches and stops plus Tappen’s Beach but gives you a bit more time to get off the bikes to explore.
Morning Coffee Ride Tour
One of the highlights of my tour was stopping at GroundSwell Cafe, a beautifully restored cafe in Tiverton offering delicious baked goods, coffee, breakfast sandwiches, fresh juices, and more.
The two-hour Morning Coffee Ride Tours starts from Little Compton and the route winds its way along quiet back roads and past estuaries, farms, and coastal lanes until you roll up to the four corners in Tiverton to indulge in some delicious treats at GroundSwell. (Note that food/beverages are not included in the tour price).
Sunset Tour
Catch Rhode Island at its finest hour with the Sunset Tour. This 1.5-hour tour will take you along the scenic roads of Sakonnet Point and out to Lloyd’s Beach where you can watch the sun drop down over the ocean.
Bike, Bed, and Breakfast Tour
Looking for a romantic getaway? The Bike, Bed, and Breakfast tour includes a one-night stay at the historic Stone House Inn and a private two-hour bike tour with Dan.
Custom/Private Rhode Island Bike Tours
Don’t see what you’re looking for? Little Compton Adventures also offers custom private tours. Whether you’re looking to explore another area of Rhode Island or you have a group wanting a unique experience, Dan can make it happen 🙂
Bike rentals
I actually initially discovered Little Compton Adventures because I was looking for a road bike rental to explore Rhode Island’s bike paths. If you’re not interested in a tour (although I highly recommend it), Dan also offers his bikes for rent. You can opt for a road bike, hybrid bike, fat tire beach cruiser, or e-bike and he’ll deliver it locally for free.
