Mountain biking is my passion and as a result, I’ve ridden in some pretty amazing places and built up a solid set of skills. And while I loved (almost) every second of being on my bike and surrounded by the mtb community, there are some characteristics of the sport that I hadn’t anticipated. Below are six things I wish I had known before getting into mountain biking.
Amazing mountain bike trails may not come first to mind when you hear of Kingman, Arizona, but the Monolith Gardens Loop is well worth a pitstop. It’s one of the most unique trails I’ve ever ridden. You’ll most likely be driving through Kingman if you’re headed east from LA or Las Vegas toward Phoenix or the Grand Canyon and if you are, give the Monolith Gardens Loop mountain bike trail a try!
If you search for Teocalli Ridge on TrailForks or MTB Project you’ll come up with five star reviews and commentary like: “fun, long downhill”, “good flow” and “a couple of hills”. But the truth is, unless you’re a crazy Coloradoan who enjoys a good sufferfest and have the lung/heart capacity of a yeti, then the only thing memorable about this trail are the views. And they are truly epic.
Are you thinking about entering your first enduro race, but not quite sure what to expect or whether you’re ready for the challenge? Don’t worry, I’ve been there. It’s scary, but once you take the plunge it’s totally worth it. Racing is a blast and if you want to become a better mountain biker, there’s not better way than to pit yourself against other riders. Below are a few tips (that I wish I had known before my first race) to help you prepare mentally and physically for your first race.
