Ride A Fat Tire Bike Through A Golf Course This Winter

Finally! A good use for golf courses ? Just kidding. Sort of (I am not a golfer). But to each their own, right?

Annnywayyy. We’ve all heard of winter fat tire biking (if you haven’t, check out this post) and it’s pretty awesome. The plus size tires help grip snow and ice, making it surprisingly easy to pedal through wintery conditions. And uphills are mostly casual, too. Again, the wide tires make for easy climbing even on a bed of snow.

If you’re not exactly a winter-sports person like me, you might just find that you enjoy fat-biking, so give it a try! Many winter resort towns like Aspen and Breckenridge have opened groomed trails to fat bikers, but if you prefer something a little more off the beaten path, how about fat biking on a golf course?

Genius, right?

Golf course terrain tends to be rolling and mellow, so no steep climbs or descents. Several golf courses even groom trails and have fat bike rentals onsite. And bonus – club houses often stay open during the winter months, so warm up with a hot toddy at the bar after your winter wonderland pedal.

Note: all winter golf course activities are dependent on snow conditions, so make sure you check the weather and snowfall before making winter fat biking plans.

Brookview’s one-mile loop through their golf course in Minneapolis may not seem like anything to write home about, but it’s a beautiful pedal away from city crowds. The city of Minneapolis grooms the trail and it’s open to fat biking, nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and winter walkers. Brookview does not offer bike rentals, but you can rent fat bikes through nearby Tonka Cycle & Ski.
